Do everything with passion. It’s my first time visiting Negros Occidental, specifically in Bacolod City. I was so excited when my friend invited me or included me in the plan of going to the city. This has been planned for a month and thank God I finally made it. Bacolod City has been called the “City of Smiles” and I wonder when or how it happened.

Here’s a quick facts from history of Bacolod City:
Bacolod City, is a highly urbanized city in the Philippines.[5] It is the capital of the province of Negros Occidental where it is geographically situated but governed administratively independent from it.
It is notable for its MassKara Festival held during the third week of October and is known for being a relatively friendly city, as it bears the nickname “The City of Smiles”.

The good thing about this trip is that I was able to experience their annual festival, which is called “Masskara Festival.” According to what they say, the festival is not particularly religious, but rather a celebration of having freedom and displaying the genuine smile of what Bacolod truly is.

Masskara 2017 had multiple programs that were held at designated venues. Just like Sinulog in Cebu, it is also a colorful and full of fun way to celebrate the annual occasion. There are costumes, parties, games, and a lot more to witness if you come to visit the festival. What makes it really different is that the highlight of the festival, the amazing designs of masks, added its trademark to the city. They used masks as a symbol of the genuine smile of the people in Bacolod City.

Since we only visit Bacolod just because of Masskara, we haven’t gotten a chance to visit some of the tourist spots. The weather is also bad, which makes you feel lazy going out. For more photos from the # MasskaraFestival2017, please see my other post.
I was also able to visit the Campuestohan Highland Resort—one of the spots to visit in Bacolod. It’s quite far from the city, but it’s worth the trip to visit and relax with your friends or family. They actually have multiple activities and accommodations to offer. They also have a day tour which only costs 150 pesos per person. Please see my other post for my Campuestohan experience for more info.

My overall Bacolod City trip is so good. Being with friendly people is one factor of this amazing trip. I’m looking forward to traveling with them in the future.
Some points
Bacolod City is so easy to visit since they have their own airport and it can also be done by land or sea. You just need to know the most convenient schedule for you so that your trip will be more fun and memorable. Take time to research and ask questions if you don’t have any idea of the place. There are lots of affordable hotels/accommodations in the area, so you can just walk-in or it’s better to book it online prior to your arrival.
